Children make personal connections with text by using their background knowledge. Students who make connections while they read are better able to understand what they are reading.
There are three main types of connections to be made while reading.
Text-to-Self - connections made between the text and the reader’s personal experiences.
Text-to-Text - connections made between the text being read and a text that was previously read.
Text-to-World - connections made between the text being read and something that occurs in the world.
